Job Description:
The Project Engineer will have lead technical responsibility for one or more R&D or product development projects, reporting directly to the Vice President, Engineering and Product Development. He/she will have principal responsibility for assuring that a disciplined engineering process is followed in the design, development, and testing of new products and technologies. Specific duties on a typical project will include development of design and operating requirements to guide engineering efforts; development of the engineering scope of work; monitoring of engineers working on technical tasks; reviewing engineering work products for completeness, technical feasibility, manufacturability, and value engineering; and providing other members of the management team with updates on progress and critical project needs. The ideal candidate will have the technical skill to perform value-added mechanical, electrical, and/or systems engineering tasks when workloads demand more hands-on engineering.

Minimum Qualifications:
• Bachelor’s Degree in Automotive, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering or equivalent technical training
• At least 10 years of engineering-related work experience
• At least three years of experience as a lead engineer, project engineer, or engineering manager
• Must be able to read schematics and diagrams
• Ability to interact professionally at all times with internal and external customers
• Good problem resolution and analytical skills related to troubleshooting technical issues, communicating and documenting solutions to non-technical parties
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office products, including MS Excel and Outlook
• Ability to operate independently with limited supervision
• Proficient oral and written communication skills
Desired Qualifications:
• Experience with automotive, electrical, and/or energy technologies
• Experience working with high voltage components such as inverters, converters, high voltage contractors, high voltage cables, permanent magnet traction motors
• Working knowledge of computer-aided design (CAD) tools such as Solidworks, electrical engineering design tools, and/or models-based control tools such as Matlab and Simulink
• Formal management or business training is a plus but is not mandatory (e.g., MBA, PMP Certification)
Areas of Responsibility:
• Lead or participate in identification of technical objectives for new projects and products
• Develop technical scope of work for assigned projects, along with estimates of engineering hours and time required to complete specific tasks
• Manage day-to-day engineering activities to a fixed budget and provide guidance to engineers to assist them in meeting technical objectives on schedule and within budget
• Apply manufacturing and value engineering judgment to help assure resulting designs meet technical requirements and are also manufacturable and cost-effective to implement
• Assist and, when appropriate, lead efforts to test completed products and to troubleshoot problems when they occur, whether before or after delivery to customers
• Provide regular input to program managers and company functional managers to apprise them of project technical status, including problems and proposed solutions
• Interact with external customers and partners on collaborative engineering projects and to communicate the results of TransPower engineering efforts
• Represent TransPower at technical conferences and symposia
• Occasionally travel to remote locations to achieve project and company objectives
